Multifaceted Reporting System Grading Policy

Percentage grades will be used on the grade cards for grades four through eight.  Grading scale is as follows:                        
A 93% - 100%                                  
B 85% -   92%
C 77% -   84%                          
D 70% -   76%
F 0% -   69%

Purpose

Standards-based Grade Card  (Quarterly)

To communicate quarterly student achievement to parent and others.

Mid-quarter Progress Report (Quarterly)

To communicate progress and offer suggestions for student improvement to parents and others. (Grades 4-8)

Newsletters
(Monthly)

To communicate what concepts and skills will be explored during the month, the learning activities planned, and how those activities can be supported at home.

Writing Portfolios
(Monthly)

To communicate student progress in the area of writing to parents and to serve as a self-reflection for the student as they select their “best” pieces of work.

Exhibits of Student Work
&Classroom Assess-ments  (Weekly)

To provide information that students, parents, and teachers can use to self-reflect on products leading to improvement in both teacher instruction and student effort.

Parent Phone Calls
& Written Messages

To communicate promptly with parents regarding issues with work habits and behaviors (positive and negative).

Journaling

To provide students self-reflection on current feelings and understanding.

Developmental Reading
Assessment (DRA)

To communicate current reading level to parents and provide information to teachers and auxiliary staff in order to select, identify, and group students for remedial instruction.

Diocesan Writing
Competency Score

To communicate information regarding the student’s writing to parents/others and to select, identify, group students for remedial instruction.  To evaluate effectiveness of writing instruction.

Conferences

To communicate areas of improvement and accomplishment to students to encourage improvement and motivation.

Parent/Teacher
Conferences

To communicate areas of improvement and accomplishment to parents to assist parents in helping their child.

Homework Projects
& Assignments

To communicate to parents the skills students are currently working on and to provide student practice on those skills.  To involve the family in the educational process.
