  Technology

The goal of the technology department at All Saints Catholic School is to equip all students with the knowledge and skill to excel in their academic future.  We focus not only on Ohio’s State Technology Standards, but also incorporate all subject areas into a variety of activities and projects.  The 2006 -2007 school year will see Grades 4-8 enhance keyboarding skills through our Type To Learn program.  Third grade will begin working on keyboarding skills in the fourth quarter.  Children begin with basic, getting to know the computer hardware to working with software applications by creating projects that correlate to core curriculum. Students enhance these classroom reports with information they research on Web.

At All Saints we use IBM compatible hardware with a variety of software applications including:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Publisher
  • Kidspiration
  • Inspiration

Students are taught how to use a variety of equipment including; digital cameras, scanners, and video equipment.  They are also instructed on safety and community concerns that affect them and others in their community.

Kindergarten - Grade 4

Mrs. Pam Rudolph teaches K-4 about the wonderful world of computers. Her focus in these younger years is to acquaint the students with computer hardware, begin working with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and the World Wide Web. She incorporates what the students are learning in the normal classroom and creates projects to enhance their learning through drawing programs and writing programs on the computer. Third and fourth graders also concentrate on learning proper keyboarding skills. She teaches the students safe web surfing, responsible information gathering, and effective computer use. Her goal in the computer lab is to mold responsible and efficient computer users.

Grades 5-8

Grade Five will continue to expand their knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. Students will compile a slide show which demonstrates their knowledge and understanding of a character chosen from Number the Stars. Each fifth grader will develop a presentation which combines a song, its lyrics, and a description of how this song “fits” their character.

Grades Six, Seven, and Eight will begin exploring Moodle, our new website that features All Saints courses. Students will continue to use technology to enhance learning in all content areas. As always, students will try to improve their keyboarding skills and software program knowledge, which will be beneficial to their success in high school and college.
