Grade
Four is off to a great start!
We began the year
learning more about ourselves, our brains, Ohio's
geography, and how God created us in his image.
We also gained new insight from our trip on the
Maumee River. Here's what's up for fourth graders
this month:
Religion
The month of Mary. Review the rosary. We will
continue to focus on sin and will learn the Ten
Commandments.
Math
Two Dimensional Geometry and Addition/Subtraction
computation (Students must know basic +/- facts.)
Social
Studies
We begin our studies of Ohio Native Americans,
prehistoric and historic. An expert speaker and
a trip to Seven Eagles (Oct. 19) will give us
a good start! We will construct time lines also.
Language
Arts
We will be working on writing informal and formal
letters, and we'll have our Diocese Writing Competency
Test during the week of Oct. 9. Please make sure
your child is in school, on time each day so they
don't miss any of the test. We'll also finish
the novel Henry Huggins. Our new novel will be
Soft Rain (Native American Novel).
Science
We begin a unit of study on plant and animal life
cycles.
Some important dates to remember:
October 1- Fall/Winter uniform
begins. No shorts.
Week of October 9 - Writing Competency Test/ TeraNova
Testing
October 9- 2 hour delay
October 19 - Trip to Seven Eagles in Grand Rapids,
OH
October 30- Report Cards go home
October 31- Halloween Parade and Party 1:00.
Thank you for continuing to
be supportive! Four areas we have been working
on are: not talking over adults, working alone
quietly, giving quiet signals to others, and showing
active listening. Any discussion you have with
your child in these areas would be appreciated.
Remember to check those assignment pads and review
nightly work! I hope you had time to look over
your child's interim report and help them set
goals for the rest of the quarter.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gayle Burrer
